Dance+ Performance Festival

Announcing the 4th annual Dance+ Performance Festival 2015 - July 7-9 & 15-17. DANCE+ is an annual, curated festival-style performance series that features local contemporary dance making. This year, DANCE+ will be held on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday evenings so that you can also attend the Risk/Reward Festival performances. Two distinct programs featuring movement makers and multi-disciplinary artists will surprise and inspire you. Calls for proposals are going out soon -- stay tuned and start conjuring!

The “plus” of DANCE+ comes from the innovative, collaborative nature of contemporary dance in its hungry investigation and integration of fresh ideas, new technologies, hybrid formats, borrowed styles, and changing definitions. The 1st annual DANCE+ performance series took place in July 2012 and focused on a collaborative approach to creating work.

DANCE+ allows artists a chance to focus more on the artistic process and less on producing and marketing promising increased levels of sophistication, innovation, and quality. DANCE+ offers a long-needed platform for Portland-area dancers to gain greater visibility, and provides a venue for their work to reach new levels artistically and professionally.

The artists in this series represent a diverse group of emerging to mature artists selected by a panel of national and regional artists and arts administrators. Artists and projects are selected through an application process and are evaluated on innovation, originality, and artistic quality.

DANCE+ seeks to focus the eye on local dance artists, strengthening Portland’s place as an innovative contributor to a global dance dialogue, and providing a means for artistic growth. This series is fundamental to Conduit’s mission to support contemporary dance, and plays a key role in a city that is increasingly known internationally for its vital arts community, in particular for its dance.

DANCE+ is a young program with potential for growth and expansion. Future plans include expanding its reach to include regional and west coast artists.
